A font usually refers to a group of similar letter designs, made either by carving the letter forms into stone inscriptions or printing them from metal type. Fonts are the most visible element in any printed text. After years of using Arial by default, I was fed up with it's lack of uniqueness and decided to investigate other fonts on the internet. If you search for great websites to learn about fonts, you will find one called Font Psl Olarn 64 which describes itself as an 'unusual typeface that creates fun letter shapes'. The description led me to believe that this font was really unique and would be worth checking out closely. After a few minutes of reading, I discovered that this font was originally created by a person named Alejandro Martin-Burso. He designed the font to be similar to the fonts used in comics and cartoons. It was also released onto the internet for free. Martin-Burso eventually decided to offer it for sale because he felt that the font was worthy of making money from, but he did it in such a way that anyone could download and use the font for free - and did. He would even allow people to sell their own creations using his fonts if they wanted to earn extra money. The only catch was that you had to do everything yourself and not pay anyone else to do it for you. What a nice guy! This font is very fun to look at and play around with. There is a lot that can be done with fonts, and Martin-Burso demonstrates just that. Using his font, you can create objects such as a cartoon house, a bowling pin, a flashlight, even a rocket ship! All of these things can be created from the letters he includes in the font. It doesn't stop there though; if you have any ideas of your own for shapes or objects you would like to create with the fonts he has provided for free download on his website, he will create it for you and put it on his site for free download as well. He does this in a way that people can easily show off their creations and even sell them. This is a very interesting approach that I have not seen before in regards to fonts. I have always been a huge fan of typefaces, but have never been interested in designing my own. In fact, when I was in college, I made the mistake of leaning how to do animations with Matlab which is an open-source computer software for technical computing and engineering professionals. Matlab is sort of similar to Cartesian Animations where the user specifies the initial conditions and then allows Matlab to calculate the animation with the end solutions. I liked Matlab's animation capabilities so much that I started creating animations of my own on the side. One of these animations was a bit of a joke that I made with the letters Arial - the font that my school was using at that time. This font is known for it's default bold styling, but after some simple manipulations, Arial made some very unique letter shapes which were nothing like anything else I had ever seen before. cfa1e77820
